Wildflower Storm Trip

The South Grand Watershed Alliance sponsored a field trip for students to Wildflower Storm on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. The Wildflower Storm project is located at Little Blue Parkway and Pink Hill Road at the trailhead to the Little Blue Trace Trail (just north of I - 70 and east of Highway 291, about a mile east of Independence Mall). The project uses native plants to help restore storm water infiltration, reduce runoff and filter pollutants. Students learned what a watershed is, the effects of changing runoff patterns and how actions in one part of the watershed can affect the whole watershed. They were taught about non-point source pollution and how we can use native plants and personal choices to help keep our rivers clean. They also had hands-on opportunities to spreading wildflower seeds, making wildflower seed balls, and try some weeding.  pictures of some of the participants on the field trip
