BELTON GIRL SCOUTS PARTNER WITH BELTON PARKS

FOREVER GREEN---COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls with 3.6 million girl and adult members worldwide.  In 2012, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in the United States.  To mark this milestone and honor our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouts of all ages are engaging in a nationwide, annual, signature community action project called "Girl Scouts Forever Green."  Long-time promoters and protectors of the environment, Girl Scouts envision being at the forefront of environmental sustainability, leading schools and communities in using resources wisely.

Girl Scouts Forever Green will be a vehicle to help girls develop their leadership skills to impact the environment by working with schools and communities to improve air quality, energy use, water use, waste management, and the use of green space.

Girl Scouts will be encouraged to “discover” and learn more about one of the five focus areas, to “connect” with community members, environmental experts and school officials to learn the needs of their local community and finally, to use this knowledge to “take action” by planning and leading an environmental action project to bring about sustainable change in their school or community.

Belton Girl Scouts partnered with the Belton Parks Department, the South Grand River Watershed Alliance (SGRWA), the Cass County Sustainability Committee (CCSC), the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Little Blue River Watershed Coalition (LBRWC) and other members of our community to promote “Girl Scouts Forever Green” by leading an Education Day which included numerous hands-on environmental activities for kids of all ages.

The Environmental Education Day was held on 3/13/10 from 12-4 pm at the High Blue Wellness Center located at 16400 N. Mullen Road.  The event was open to the public.
